My favorite laptop (and I've used a lot!)
As a retired IT professional with nearly 40 year's experience in software development and *nix systems administration, I am extremely pleased with the latest Macbook 11.6" Air. It's the most portable laptop that I have ever used, and it's a wonderful companion to my desktop iMac.

I hesitated weeks between the MBA 11", MBA 13" and MBP Retina 13" … but I kept going back to this. And it's everything I hoped it will be.

Excellent, such a brilliant laptop!
Christmas gift for my daughter, whose laptop broke. Very small, but extremely fast, great for students (like her) and anyone else who needs a laptop on the go. Great bonuses such as the new Lion operating system, automatic keyboard back lighting (for typing in darker surroundings) and the light...

Awesome computer!
I don't know why anyone would down rate a laptop just because you can buy alternative parts and build a better one.
Pros:
- Very very very light/thin
Cons:
- -Have to buy a thunderbolt display out to connect to an external display

Not ideal, but it's a start.
I didn't get this machine because it's easier to use than Windows. It's not.
Pros:
- Hardware
- no-maintenance software
- overall quality
Cons:
- Pathetic office software from Apple
- not as many key-hold tricks for quick writing editing

Apple MacBook Air 11in (mid-2012) review
If you don't need quad-core processing power, but still require a stable, comfortable keyboard to do your writing, this year's refreshed Apple MacBook Air 11in (which starts at £849) might be the chariot you're looking for.
Pros:
- Thin and light
- Speedy enough with an Ivy Bridge CPU
- Nicely bright screen
- Smart multi-touch trackpad
Cons:
- Only middling battery life
- No SD card slot
- or HDMI/Ethernet

Takes two steps forward, two steps back...
I've been a keen Apple user since 1994 now, and I don't consider myself to be a particularly technically minded person - in other words, I feel that I am the core audience (no pun intended) for the company.
