This new iterative smartwatch focuses on biking, and the battery life still stinks.
Bigger, beautiful display. New QWERTY keyboard to ditch texting on your phone. Faster charging. Updated algorithms, especially for biking. The usual full suite of health features. Seamless incorporation with Apple software and hardware.
Battery still barely lasts a full day. Not enough newness to convince me to upgrade.
Despite appearances this is a pretty big leap for Apple Watch, and the new display is killer.
Awesome larger display, Faster charging, All-day battery life, Always-on now brighter
No new health features, Limited upgrade over Series 6
The entire smartwatch category had a good Q2, as numbers jumped 27% year over year. That, in turn, was up 20% from a year prior, in spite — or perhaps because of — COVID-19 concerns.
The Apple Watch Series 7 might just be the perfect smartwatch. Sorry to give the game away this early, but there are no secrets or surprises here — and that’s a good thing. A smartwatch should be an extension of your smartphone, yet also needs to be able to function reliably and usefully on its own. It should provide extensive, motivational, and informative health and activity tracking without alienating those who aren’t athletes. It should look great, and be easily customized to match your mood, style, and environment. It shouldn’t require constant supervision or have complex or gimmicky features that overshadow basic everyday usefulness. New models need to also improve over the previous version, so everyone can consider upgrading if they want. The Apple Watch Series 7 delivers all this and more. Let’s talk about it. It’s pretty much impossible to tell the difference between the Series 7 and the Series 6 just by glancing at them. The 1mm increase in case size — 45mm and 41mm for the S...
Large screen, small bezels; Easily personalized; Choice of models and sizes; Comprehensive health tracking; Reliable software and notifications; Fast charging; Stronger and tougher than before;
Only works with the iPhone;
Coming as a surprise to absolutely no one, the Apple Watch Series 7 is the best smartwatch out there. The...
The bigger display makes things easier to see and read. Fast charging. It's the best smartwatch for iPhone users.
Battery life is still one day. Design changes are too subtle.
There wasn’t a lot wrong with last year’s Series 6 , so a bigger, better screen and faster charging add to an already winning experience. It is still expensive, even if it is £10 cheaper than last year, and the lack of third-party watch faces means you’re stuck using only those that are built in.
Pros: excellent haptic vibrations, larger and better always-on screen, ECG, top health tracking, great activity tracking, 50m water resistance, solid battery, long software support, recycled aluminium.
Cons: expensive, only works with an iPhone, sleep tracking still not great, blood oxygen data not that useful, no third-party watch faces, not a giant upgrade.
Apple’s yearly update has given the Apple Watch Series 7 a bigger display amid other refinements – but is it worth upgrading?
New size is very welcome, Brilliantly bright display, New colour cases, So many watch face options
Watch SE better value for many, Fast charging requires specific cable, Battery life could be better
This is a Series 6 with a slightly larger display. That makes it better, technically, but it’s a disappointingly small improvement that has us thinking Apple should have skipped a year.
Bigger display with thinner bezels, Faster charging
Barely an upgrade from Series 6, Colors are arguably worse
Nobody can deny that the Apple Watch won the smartwatch wars, and the latest Apple Watch Series 7 only extends that lead. A collection of endearing enhancements rather than the all-out reinvention that some expected, 2021’s version blends a bigger display with the improvements of watchOS 8 , for a...
Bigger display, Faster charging, On-screen keyboard massively improves text-entry, Improved fitness tracking
Still just 1 day of battery life, Dedicated fitness wearables offer more tracking features
