I bought this lens to do portrait work but then I find myself using it more and more for every kind of pictures, compressed landscape, flower, nature, anything really. The quality of the pictures is just too great to miss. This lens is well balanced on a 40d (it would be on a rebel also).
Perfect picture quality; fast and silent
Prime..; Zoom and Dezoom with your feet
This is a great lens for portrait photography. With f/1.8 you can get a good shallow DOF and good bokeh. It's sharp as a tack and the focusing is fast and accurate. The construction is not up to L lens standards but this isn't an L lens.
Consistent Output; Durable; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus
Weak Casing
The Canon EF 85/1.8 USM is a very good lens. It's one of Canon's best lenses and it's certainly near or at the top of the list of Canon's best value lenses. It's far and away better in all respects than any comparably priced zoom lens, and probably arguably better than any zoom lens regardless of...
The Canon 85/1.8 prime lens is inexpensive and lightweight. It is a very good portrait lens for a film or full-frame Canon digital SLR and a great portrait/telephoto lens for a Canon small-sensor digital SLR, such as the Canon Digital Rebel XTi (Black) , ( compare prices ) ( review ).
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is one of two 85mm lenses currently being manufactured by Canon (the other one being EF 85mm f/1.2L USM). Combination of (relatively) large maximum aperture and affordable price (about US$350 as of June 2007) make this lens an interesting choice for portrait photography among...
The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is a very desirable lens and, surprisingly, a very affordable one. Both contrast and resolution are very good straight from f/1.8 and excellent at medium aperture settings. On APS-C DSLRs there's only a moderate degree of vignetting at f/1.8 and beyond it's a non-issue.
Digital camera resolution and 50% MTF was measured using this methology .
THIS LENS was purchased to fill the gap between my 50mm macro and 100mm macro lenses and in a few months has replaced the 100mm as my go-to short telephoto of choice. It's image quality, moderate focal length and significantly smaller size compared to the 100 are the main factors in this shift.
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is one of Canon's portrait lens, 85mm being the classic portrait lens focal length. The other 85mm lens is the f/1.2L II USM . The f/1.2L being almost 6 times the price of the f/1.8, but make no mistake, the 85mm f/1.8 USM is truly a great lens at an affordable price and is...
