A terrific solution
I wanted an upgrade to my cheap Office desktop speakers. Very difficult to choose speakers without listening to them. After way too much research involving way too many choices, I zeroed in on these 305s and a couple of other (more expensive) choices.

Low-level hiss present
I bought these to use as monitor speakers for video editing. They sound pretty good, especially for the holiday pricing special! As others have commented, they do have a residual hiss in the background, both when driving them from a single-ended & balanced sources.
