Jabra Elite Active 65t review: These wireless headphones beat out AirPods on sound quality

The Jabra Active Elite 65t truly wireless earphones are the best alternative to Apple's AirPods, but the stepdown non-Elite model will save you a bit of cash. Apple's AirPods have dominated the truly wireless headphone category since their arrival in late 2016, but Jabra's Elite 65t ($170, £150 or AU$300) and Elite Active 65t ($190, £170 or AU$350) are among a handful of truly wireless models that are compelling alternatives. They definitely have performance advantages, including a more secure fit and better noise isolation than their Apple rivals.
Pros:
  • The Jabra Active Elite 65t are fully sweat-resistant truly wireless earphones that fit comfortably and securely
  • They sound excellent, perform reliably and are great for making calls, with two microphones in each earpiece
  • Battery life is decent at 5 hours and the included charging case delivers two extra charges
  • A quick-charge feature allows you to get 1.5 hours of juice from a 15-minute charge.
Cons:
  • The relatively tight, noise-isolating fit isn't for everyone
  • Motion sensor doesn't have much use at this point.

Jabra Elite Active 65t True Wireless In Ear Sport Headphones - Copper Blue 100-99010000-40 review

The Apple AirPods generated excitement for the cable-free Bluetooth earbud market, but they are not designed for sports with no level of dust or water resistance and a form factor that does not secure them into the ear canal.
Pros:
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Simple
  • large buttons for control
  • Advanced smartphone application
  • HearThrough mode for safety
  • Four mics for good quality calling
  • Solid five hours of battery life
  • Two-year sweat warranty
Cons:
  • Still uses older microUSB for charging

Jabra Elite Active 65t

You have to hand it to Jabra-the company has invested in an app that works with multiple models of its headphones, and it's the rare case in which the app actually improves the user experience to a notable degree.
Pros:
  • Powerful bass and sculpted highs
  • Customizable EQ
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant design
  • Secure in-ear fit
  • Counts steps
Cons:
  • Auto-pair process can be cumbersome, with only one earpiece pairing at times
  • Not for purists seeking accurate audio

In the two years since Apple released its AirPods , true-wireless earphone makers have been working hard to match Cupertino's balance of price, solid industrial design and pleasing audio. A few like Jaybird, with the excellent Run earphones , have come close.
Pros:
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Lightweight
  • Water resistant
  • Two-year warranty against dust and water damage
  • Audio properties can be changed with companion app
  • 15-minute charge provides 90 minutes of music
Cons:
  • Inferior passive noise cancellation
  • Unimpressive low frequency performance
  • Lightweight materials make them look a little cheap

Jabra Elite 65t and Elite Active 65t Review: Beating Apple's AirPods

Apple's AirPods have been the standard bearer for true wireless earbuds, but that doesn't make them the best available, a point proven by both the Jabra Elite 65t and Elite Active 65t This isn't the company's first kick at the can.
Pros:
  • Improved fit for noise isolation
  • Good sound quality
  • Competitive price
Cons:
  • More charges on the case would be nice
  • In-app EQ doesn't offer too much
  • Alexa needs better integration

Jabra Elite 65t

Compared to what else is out there, it's not bad for a true wireless sport IEM at $170. As of this writing, I'm unaware of anything cheaper with the same features and performance. It's a better deal, of course, if your timing is good and you catch it when it's $130.
Pros:
  • A solid earbud
Cons:
  • Customer Service is an epic FAIL

Jabra Elite 65t Review: The best in a very, very small class

Though the Jabra Elite 65t have their faults, they go toe-to-toe with the Airpods and are better than them in a few important aspects like playback controls built-in to the earbuds and great battery life.

  • Auto-connects to your phone
  • IP55
  • OK connection strength
  • Playback controls built-in
  • Microphone quality
