Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel i5 256GB SSD Convertible Tablet - Black PUV-00021 review

While it might look the same as the Pro 6, the Surface Pro 7 packs a punch.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel i5 256GB SSD Convertible Tablet - Black PUV-00021 review

Still the best Windows 2-in-1 around, but it remains ahead due to the lack of highly recommendable alternatives. The performance upgrade here is excellent, but design-wise the huge bezels now look dated and Microsoft's dedication to Surface Connect is somewhat puzzling.
Pros:
  • Up-to-date Intel processors make for powerful and snappy performance
  • Punchy screen colours and resolution
  • USB-C is a welcome addition
Cons:
  • Lack of real change over predecessor
  • Big screen bezels
  • No Thunderbolt
  • So-so battery life (i7 tested)
  • Expensive extras - when adding Type Cover and Pen

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Review

The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 feels more like a Surface Pro 6.5 than an actual new product. The only significant changes are the addition of a USB-C input and a move to Intel’s newer 10th-gen family of laptop CPUs. However, it remains a solid convertible and great choice for those looking for a flexible machine that works equally well as an office laptop as it does as a personal tablet.
Pros:
  • Full-fat Windows 10 application library
  • Excellent connectivity
  • Solid build quality
Cons:
  • Type Cover costs extra
  • Not a big step up on the Surface Pro 6

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel i5 256GB SSD Convertible Tablet - Black PUV-00021 review

As updates go, this one is minor. But the Surface Pro is still a major player in portable productivity.
Pros:
  • Finally a USB-C port! Still solid performance, battery life, and usability.
Cons:
  • No real compelling reasons to upgrade from previous models. Remains expensive.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel i5 256GB SSD Convertible Tablet - Black PUV-00021 review

If you're a content owner of a Surface Pro 5 or Surface Pro 6 , then there is little reason to upgrade to the Surface Pro 7. It's tough to recommend Microsoft's latest iteration when it offers the exact same display as the two-year old Surface Pro 5 and roughly the same CPU performance as the...
Pros:
  • higher temporary Turbo Boost performance over last year's model, Core i5 CPU performance on par with last year's Core i7, finally a USB Type-C port with Power Delivery, updated and faster Toshiba NVMe SSD, slightly longer battery life, Wi-Fi 6 comes standard, silent
  • passively cooled
Cons:
  • exact same LG Philips IPS display as on the 2017 Surface Pro 5, display could be better calibrated out of the box, high Turbo Boost performance is short-lived, coil whine
  • electronic noise on our unit, still no Thunderbolt 3 support, slow graphics driver updates, no WAN or GPS

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel i5 256GB SSD Convertible Tablet - Black PUV-00021 review

The Surface Pro 7 is the creative hardware of choice for the Illustrator – and by this we mean professional vector artists and graphic designers whose main tool is Adobe Illustrator.
Pros:
  • The best tablet/laptop hybrid that can run full Windows apps
  • Impressive performance for its size
  • Stylish accessories.
Cons:
  • Screen needs improving.

Faulty from the start

I have had my new laptop for 2 weeks and had a few problems already, wouldnt charge or power up, cant connect to internet, needs to shut down due to errors. Think microsoft should have spent a bit more time debugging before releasing.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel i5 256GB SSD Convertible Tablet - Black PUV-00021 review

The Surface Pro 7 is arguably the best windows tablet money can buy, it’s just not that big a leap over the Surface Pro 6. The form, design, microSD card slot, kickstand, Windows Hello and simply the way it works are still winners in 2020.
Pros:
  • Pros: great screen
  • good battery life
  • brilliant keyboard (essential additional purchase)
  • microSD card reader
  • excellent kickstand
  • Windows Hello
  • solid build
  • easy to carry
  • USB-A and USB-C
Cons:
  • Cons: no Thunderbolt 3
  • fairly expensive
  • keyboard should be included
  • Core i7 version fans are more audible

Great unit. This is my second surface pro

I like now there is a USB 3 port. And I bought the new type of cover. Great Product. Great using the pen to write with.
