Nikon D5100 DSLR Camera
I usually don't take out my Nikon D5100 for heavy duty or casual purposes. That's because it is high resolution DSLR and I am totally in love with it. You can say I am very possessive about this first ever DSLR I ever bought. Even a bit possessive perhaps.

Perfect for most needs!
I wanted a camera that could deliver both high quality photos and high quality video. Though I haven't pushed the camera to it's limits, I have been able to use it in the exact manner I was hoping for.
Pros:
- Easy To Use
- Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus
- Good Image Quality
- Good Image Stabilization
- Quiet
- Tilt /Swivel LCD
Cons:
- Short Battery Life

Although there has been some overlap, digital SLR development has gone through some quite distinct phases. Initially the battle was to produce affordable models, and once this was achieved manufacturers turned their attention to producing cameras with higher pixel counts.

Great advice and service
Mark provided excellent advice (both by email and on the phone) to guide me to this product. Being an enthusiastic camera user himself he was wanting to make sure he matched the product to what I required... and not just make a sale.

Nikon vs Sony
I couldn't decide between the Nikon D5100 and the Sony a57 so i bought them both to try them out. Overall they are both great but in the end I chose the Sony. The colours and clarity on both were great as you would expect. The menu system on each are quite different but both very effective.

Pros:
- Excellent image quality and high ISO performance
- very similar to the D7000
- Excellent dynamic range
- especially from RAW
- Compact body
- Versatile left-hinged swivel LCD with high resolution
- Records 1080p movies at up to 30fps
- Dedicated movie record button
- Chromatic aberration automatically
Cons:
- No support for screw-drive autofocus
- Somewhat weak flash with narrow coverage
- Built-in flash does not support wireless operation
- No dedicated ISO button
- No control over shutter speed or ISO for movies
- though aperture can be set before recording begins
- Warm Auto and Incandescent WB in tungsten
