Nikon D5100 Review

Overall, I had a very positive experience with the Nikon D5100. The camera is capable of delivering excellent results both for digital stills and video. As can be seen from image comparisons against other older Nikon DSLRs, the sensor on the Nikon D5100 and D7000 DSLRs is truly remarkable.

Nikon D5100

The Nikon D5100 is a excellent camera, updating it's predecessor and offering a competitive alternative to the Canon rival at a similar price and spec. The Canon offers, we feel, more direct control (including on-board wireless flash control), but the Nikon on-screen information is excellently...
Pros:
  • Image quality
  • focusing
  • video quality
  • Effects mode gives some quick and fun results
  • vari-angle screen
  • low light performance
Cons:
  • Controls could be better arranged to give you direct control of shooting features with less dependency on the menus
  • Effects could offer more settings
  • camera neither feels simple enough for newcomers or direct enough for the more advanced photographer

Nikon D5100: Review

The Nikon D5100 is an important step forward in the history of SLR cameras. Make available, in an entry-level price, features and qualities typical of more expensive models and semi-professional. Just think of the 16 mega pixel sensor and, above all, the high quality in the images it captures.
Pros:
  • Image quality
  • features and specifications semiprofessional
Cons:
  • We would have preferred a greater customization of the buttons

Pros:
  • Complete Novice like me can pick the camera up and use the different modes
