i decided to get this 35mm instead of the new 40mm macro, and/or the 50mm. i have a d200 and the crop factor with this lens gives me the perfect coverage i was looking for. it's now become my "normal" lens.
Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh

Have only had this lens for less than a week now, but am very pleased with the results I'm getting with it installed on my D3400. With the 3400, this lens allows the same basic view and capture as the human eye.

This lens is amazingly great for the price. The quality of images really stands out with the large aperture. I went to take up close pictures with this and you can see the details of each and every object. It is especially great for low light situations and indoor shots.
So far loving this product.
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is a solid lens if you want a lightweight 35mm for your Nikon SLR, but it's not the best one you can get.
Quite sharp; Compact and light; Not that expensive.
Some barrel distortion; Lacks optical stabilization
"I didn't really expect as much from this lense when I first bought it. But I wanted something a bit wider to shoot than 50mm. I brought it to a concert thinking ""oh, it's not going to be as sharp as my 50mm 1.4, but I need something wider."" So I went for it.
This lens is incredible the photos I got off this are so sharp especially doing long exposure on light trails; It's easy to focus on stars too which is excellent as I love taking star and night sky photos; Definitely recommend this lens
Great quality lens that creates sharp images every time. Great low light and great depth of field.
In the old days, 35mm film cameras would often be bundled with an inexpensive, but bright, 50mm prime lens. Today your typical APS-C SLR comes with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom instead, a lens that's absolutely adequate for outdoor photography, but struggles in dim light and doesn't give you the ability to blur the background behind your subject with as much aplomb as wide aperture lenses. For DX Nikon owners, the AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ($199.95) is the modern day equivalent of the fast 50mm prime. Its angle of view basically matches a full-frame 50mm, and the bright f/1.8 maximum aperture makes your viewfinder brighter in dim light and blurs out the background behind your subject. It's an affordable lens for owners of DX (APS-C) Nikon cameras, and a strong performer overall. Design The DX Nikkor 35mm ($246.96 at Amazon) is very small and light. It measures 2.1 by 2.8 inches (HD), weighs 7.1 ounces, and supports 52mm front filters. A reversible lens hood is included, as are rear ...
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G lens is bright and sharp, and worth adding to your DX Nikon SLR kit.
Inexpensive; Compact and light; Bright aperture; Crisp images
Some barrel distortion; Narrow, rough-feeling manual focus ring; No optical stabilization; Purple fringing can be visible in high-contrast scenes
