Razer Huntsman Elite: A hyper-exciting hybrid that lives up to the pricetag

It’s hard to imagine a better time to be in the market for a gaming keyboard than now. We’re at the tail-end of both the ‘make-it-RGB’ and ‘make-it-mechanical’ trends, with consumers poised to reap the benefits. When it comes to software, almost all of the major brands offer comprehensive RGB customizability. When we’re talking hardware, things like full N-key rollover and 30-million keystroke durability are pretty much the norm.

Time will have to tell whether opto-mechanicals are the next gold rush for the gaming accessories space. However, for now, the products like Razer Huntsman are great - but not quite a gaming necessity.

Top-notch design and build quality; Opto-mechanical switches are hyper-tactile;

Expensive; Key innovations aren't quite a game-changer;

Razer Huntsman Elite

As the newest addition to Razer's keyboard lineup, the Razer Huntsman Elite aims to bring a new height to performance mechanical gaming keyboards. But unlike all of Razer's keyboards before it, it's equipped with something special: a brand new opto-mechanical switch.

Razer Huntsman Elite review

Razer has been a longtime champion of its own mechanical switches – seen in everything from desktop keyboards to laptops and even iPad covers – but the Huntsman and Huntsman Elite introduces the company's first Optomechanical switch.

Fastest key actuation ever; Tactile and audible key switch clicks; Nearly perfect keyboard layout

Requires two USB ports for power; Sharp edges on palm rest; Whiplash-inducing price

Worth the money

This is the best keyboard I have ever to used. The keys are sturdy and high quality. They feel amazing to key on and are very responsive. I can definitely tell a difference in key response time. The lighting looks amazing too, I really like the underglow. The wrist rest is very comfortable.

Keyboard works fine. Pretty good for gaming, keys feel nice to the touch and the media keys are super useful. However, the light bar on both the keyboard and the wrist-rest looks so warped it is incredibly annoying. Keyboard was rocking back and forth when it arrived but it's a bit better now.

Best keyboard I've used, period

The best mechanical keyboard on the market right now. Suitable for casual use and most importantly, for gaming. The wrist rest is a nice addition and feels really good; the keys sound and feel amazing and the RGB is... Well, RGB.

Razer Huntsman Elite

Mechanical gaming keyboards have soared in popularity, and with a vast number of players looking to secure their slice of this lucrative pie, manufacturers are having to think outside the box in order to stand out from the burgeoning crowd.

Excellent clicky key switch; Leatherette wrist rest; Best-in-class RGB lighting; Solid build and stylish looks; Mature software utility

No USB passthrough; Media controls could be better; Costs £200
