Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review

It's easy to get carried away and lose sight of just how far we've come in the smartphone world. Apple's iPhone 14 is 7.8 millimeters thick but can communicate directly with satellites, boasts photographic talents that eclipse dedicated cameras and action cams, and does so starting at just $799.

Improved low-light camera performance, Clever safety features (you hope you won't need)

Improvements feel evolutionary, eSIM may prove a headache, iPhone 13 offers much the same for $100 less

Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review

The iPhone 14 is better than its predecessor, but it's also more expensive and doesn't have many significant upgrades.

Even faster, with a better camera and more features.

Charger is optional. Lacks telephoto lens. Price has been increased.

Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - Brand New review

More like an iPhone 13S. The generational upgrades for the iPhone 14 are limited to a few subtle changes. At the same time, however, the base price climbs to 800 USD, while the only true innovation happens inside the iPhone 14 Pro series.

excellent OLED display, dust- and waterproof, fast Wi-Fi, wide range of supported frequencies, great camera, very fast performance, good battery life

display limited to 60 Hz, charging rate limited to 20 watts, no macro lens, wide notch

Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G Review

The Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G ($599.99) could easily be overlooked as just another 50mm prime for the system. It's a popular focal length, and there are no shortage of options if you're a standard lens fan. But it sets itself apart by way of its slim size and premium construction. It's easily our favorite affordable 50mm for the Sony system, and while it costs more than twice that of the budget-friendly FE 50mm F1.8, the 50mm F2.5 G is a much better lens, and an Editors' Choice award winner.Sony's Nifty Fifty For many, the 50mm prime is the first lens you add to a kit to supplement a starter zoom, and every full-frame camera system worth its salt has at least a few good primes available in the focal length. For Sony system owners, that includes a number of excellent premium performers, like the Zeiss 55mm F1.8 that was introduced along with the first a7 camera, up through the FE 50mm F1.2 GM, a lens that debuted a week ahead of this writing. You'll spend more on those lenses. At around...

The Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G is a small lens with a featherweight build, splash protection, and exemplary optics.

Small, light build; Dust and splash protection; Outstanding resolution; Function button and aperture control; Quick, quiet autofocus; Full-frame sensor coverage; Declickable aperture ring

Shows some focus breathing; Omits anti-smudge fluorine; Cramped controls

Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - BRAND NEW review

The FE 50mm f/2.5 G is the final member of a trio of compact prime lenses announced by Sony in late March 2021, and it’s the pick of the trio when it comes to overall performance and versatility.

Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens for Sony - BRAND NEW review

Sony currently offers five full-frame 50mm lenses, from the highly affordable FE 50mm F1.8 (£299) to the exceptional-quality FE 50mm F1.2 GM (£2,100). The FE 50mm F2.5 G offers an alternative in a nice compact and lightweight form that’s weather-sealed and has a de-clickable aperture ring along with...

Love the bokeh

Bought this last month along with the new Sony 7C. It is so versatile to use and carry that I hardly change to my other lens.

Sony G Series Nails the "Nifty Fifty" Category

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sharp. Colorful. Accurate. Ultra-compact. Incredible depth of field. What else can be said about the 50mm F2.5 that you can't tell immediately after attaching to your alpha series camera body and taking it out for a couple of shots. This thing is amazing. I've been using an 85mm f1.4 prime gmaster lens as my primary, and it's been a bit of a pain. It weighed a ton, and needed F2.2 or higher to get a crisp image. With this 50mm, I have the most perfect on-the-go versatile prime lens I could want, and it's taking photos that rival that of the far more expensive gmaster. I think that with a little more time and practice, this lens will be my new favorite go-to for all purpose prime lens photography.

Sharp fast lens

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I took this beautiful lens for a weekend photoshoot to the brushy creek trial. First impression, the lens is built awesome, its slightly on the heavier side, but it made sense when I started using it. The focus was super fast, they have used a high quality motor on this. And the photos turned out super sharp, with very slight distortion on the edges. The bokeh effect was amazing at the max aperture. I also took some shot videos - video was very vibrant and sharp throughout, without losing the autofocus. Last but not least, this is heavy but a small lens, so it hardly took any space in my camera bag. Overall, I loved shooting with it This is one of those lenses that reminds me the SLRs are not going away how much good the phone cameras come out to be. I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review.
