Full-frame Sony mirrorless photographers have a wide range of prime lens options in the short telephoto range, but most of them carry a premium price tag. The FE 85mm F1.8 comes in at an attractive $599.99 cost compared with premium options like the $1,200 Zeiss Batis 1.8/85 and $1,800 Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM, both of which have earned Editors' Choice honors. The FE 85mm F1.8 captures images that are sharper than the Batis, albeit with a stronger vignette and without in-lens stabilization. Holy Snikeez! This Lens Performs-So Glad I Got it!

Since the Zeiss 85 and the Sony G Master 85 were so expensive I held out for almost a year. I used the excellent Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 for close up portraits. But eventually Sony put out the way more affordable 85 1.8. As soon as I got it (I was one of the first to order it) I was hooked!

Been using Nikon for over 13 years, but finally sold all my gear and jumped on the Sony band wagon. This is one of the first lenses that I got. I am thoroughly impressed by the quality! Not just for the price, but at any price point, this lens is killer!

Love this little lens. It's much smaller than my Sony G Master 1.4 however, it is much quieter and a third of the price! The image quality is almost identical to it however, the bokeh is a little bit more cat-eye shaped.

Great low light performer

Bought this along with my A7R III. It is a solid lens and excellent Bokeh. I get great pictures even from fast moving toddlers and dogs. Even performs great on continuous shooting mode. The price point on this lens is the icing on the cake.
