Hi frnds im giving a advice not to buy WD My Passport portable drive Essential se 1 tb not be the fastest drive available, and it has not having good speed docks like the Must-have Seagate HDD.
This experience further cements WD's good name in my book.
I've owned this drive for 5 years, and gave it a lot of abuse; I've thrown it into backpacks, traveled with it, thrown it on the table, dropped it multiple times from desk height; The drive never skipped a beat; The last time I dropped it the plastic casing unsnapped , producing a gap in the body.
None that I can think of
Transfer rates stayed the same with the installation of the SmartWare software, though the user experience decreased. If you don't install it, every time you connect the drive the software will mount and ask to be installed. This was extremely annoying.
1T is plenty room for movies and music and add to that the price and 10th Anniversary Edition design and I am very pleased with my purchase !!!
Along with the My Book update this week, WD has released a new version of the My Passport and My Passport for Mac, the company's popular portable storage solution. This re-release is highlighted by a new modern design that features a textured underside and is available in six distinct colors: Black,...
Same reliable hardware; Back up software works great and is seamless to use; Its new design is coupled with vibrant color options
Performance hasn't improved over the previous version
Western Digital's range of USB powered external hard drives - like the My Passport Ultra for instance - are fantastic options for affordable, portable storage… for your average consumer anyway.
Western Digital's My Passport is a portable hard drive that goes big on storage and slashes features back to the bare essentials. It packs oodles of capacity into it's compact, plasticky body, though, and its 2TB capacity providing 1.8TB of formatted space.
Have always trusted WD drives. Used them over 23 years , in my computer sales,/service business. And their software was great. However with this drive, the WD software would not install in Win7. They did include Acronis image software, that's why I rate this product 4 stars.
I have been using WD products for a long time and I have never been let down. They have never had any issues. I just keep getting bigger ones.
