Fujifilm Instax SQ40 review: The bigger picture

The SQ40 is a solid camera that can't be described as little but does its job well. That said, the same reservations as usual apply - buying film is expensive and you're still subject to somewhat regular dud outcomes. It's chunkier than an Instax Mini and you do therefore get better photos in our opinion, but the added difficulty in carting it around means that I still think a Mini is the better choice for most people, on balance.
Pros:
  • Nice new looks
  • Great film format
  • So easy to use
Cons:
  • No tripod mounting
  • Expensive

Instax Square SQ40 review

The Instax Square SQ40 isn’t anything new – it’s really just the (cheaper) SQ1 dressed up in a black vegan leather finish. Slight improvements to low light performance help justify the price hike though, and if you want a square Instax that doesn’t feel like a toy, this is your only option.
Pros:
  • Premium black leather design, Easy to use, Good quality in low light
Cons:
  • Limited controls and options, Not rechargeable

Fujifilm Instax SQ40 review

The Fujifilm Instax SQ40 is everything an instant camera should be: it's stylish, it offers point-and-shoot simplicity, and it delivers decent-sized square-format prints. It’s pricier than an Instax Mini 12 and can also be restricting for those that want to get more creative, but otherwise the SQ40...
Pros:
  • Looks great, Point-and-shoot simplicity, Print size is spot on
Cons:
  • Pricier than many alternatives, Leaves little room for creativity

Fujifilm instax SQ40 review

The SQ40 is an analogue instant camera that uses Fujifilm's instax Square film. It’s based on the SQ1’s innards, but swaps the pastel colours for a more serious vintage-styled look with a grippy rubber finish.
