Insta360’s second micro-size Go camera offers improved image quality and a clever remote control charging case. This makes it much more useful than its predecessor for shooting video beyond 30-second throwaway clips. It’s not for everyone, but the Insta360 Go 2 is perfect for vlogs or as a second action camera that you can take virtually everywhere.

There are many reasons why people choose action cameras over traditional mirrorless cameras and smartphones, but perhaps the most important one is the unique point of view they’re able to provide. That’s just one aspect that appeals to me about the Insta360 Go 2, which fundamentally follows the same approach as other action cameras. Due to its diminutive size, though, it lends additional utility to capturing clips that are nearly impossible to obtain with other cameras — all while remaining as discreet as possible. Let me just state the obvious here: The Insta360 Go 2 can go in most any place, even those you would think impossible. That’s without question what makes this action camera a far more effective tool for obtaining unique perspectives. Compared to most action cams, like the DJI Osmo Action that I use, the camera module for the Insta360 Go 2 is about a quarter of the size. That allows the Go 2 to capture content in tighter spots. At a shade under £300 for the standard package, the Go 2 is a good deal. You get an absolutely tiny (some might say edible… not me though) and waterproof action camera with some of the slinkiest image stabilisation around, a pocket-sized charging case and all the mounts you could shake a selfie stick at, all in one box. That’s not to say there isn’t room for improvement, and the low stills resolution and too-sensitive clickable button mean some might still find a GoPro a better bet. But the Go 2 gives the bigger brand a heck of a run for its money, while improving on the first Go in almost every respect.
