Nokia Asha 311 Review

The Nokia Asha 311 has arrived in our office and we received it with mixed feelings. It's part of the Asha lineup, a series of feature phones that is largely keeping Nokia afloat at the moment as it struggles selling enough Windows Phone smartphones.

Capacitive screen brings better responsiveness; Refreshed Series 40 UI; 3G; Wi-Fi connectivity

Not cheap enough; better smartphones now available at same price; Design too plasticky; Series 40 still feels a bit slow

Meet the Nokia Asha 311, Nokia's attempt to end the war between smartphones and "dumbphones". This 3-inch touchscreen phone packs a 1GHz processor, 3G and Wi-Fi for location skills, but it's running Nokia's power sipping S40 operating system, which you probably last saw on that ageing Nokia candybar...

For an operating system that has its roots in early 2000s feature phones, it's remarkable what you can do with S40 on the Nokia Asha 311; You can browse the web, get email, peruse Facebook and Twitter, chat over instant messaging or even with smartphone-owning mates using the popular WhatsApp.

That's the good: the bad is that this is still an operating system from the early 2000s; It may mean a long battery life of days rather than hours, but it also means slow loading times, and more pop-ups than a children's picture book; "Error this", "Problem that".

Nokia Asha 311 review: A penny saved

Nokia is still picking up pace in the smartphone market, with the Microsoft-driven Lumias yet to make the impact the Finns have been hoping for since the strategy reset.

Nokia Asha 311 Review

The Nokia Asha 311 might be the top handset in the range but it won't cut it in the current market.  The Series 40 operating system feels like old technology, polished to look like an Android, yet for the same money or less, you could pick up a higher specced ‘droid with access to the vastly

Good battery life; easily set-up email and networking; free EA games bundle

Restrictive app store; low-resolution display; overpriced

Nokia Asha 311

Nokia's Asha 311 is a budget blower that comes packing a new touchscreen interface.

Full Touch user interface is the best yet on a Series 40 handset; Relatively low price tag

Small; compact design; Poor web browser; No GPS; Limited range of apps

Nokia Asha 311 budget smartphone review

Nokia's smartphone sales may be in the toilet at the moment but it still flogs a fair number of handsets under the Asha brand of feature phones. Newest to the ranks is the Asha 311 which looks and behaves a bit like a smartphone but has a far lower purchase price – around £100 unlocked and SIM-free.

Nokia Asha 311 review

While Nokia's Lumia Windows Phone smartphones get the lions share of press for the Finnish firm these days, its Nokia Asha feature-phones are the unsung heroes that are quietly shifting plenty of units throughout the world.

In recent years, Nokia has seen a falling graph in the midst of cheap Android phones. To recapture the lost fame, Nokia has introduced a fine combination of a budgeted smartphone and a gaming device with Asha series.

User interface is very impressive and you can toggle between applications swiftly; The powerful battery, sound connectivity and ultimate music of Nokia 311 are also notable.

Nokia Asha 311

Tweet At the high-end and midrange smartphone spectrum Nokia competes against the likes of the iPhone and Galaxy S3 with its Windows Phone -based smartphones . When it comes to the low end of the smartphone market however, Nokia uses its Asha feature phone range to woo buyers away from entry-level...

Great battery life; 40 free EA Games voucher; snappy performance; FM Radio; 2 GB memory card included in retail package

Resistive-like touchscreen experience on a capacitive display; and paltry internal storage
