The basics Are you ready to ditch your point and shoot for just a cameraphone? Samsung's betting on you carrying around only one gizmo that does it all with its lens-heavy, camera-orientated Galaxy K Zoom, the successor to last year's Galaxy S4 Zoom.

Last year's Galaxy S4 Zoom had plenty of things right with it, mostly in the camera department, but it was simply far too big to really fit in your pocket; This time around, Samsung's slimmed things down with the K Zoom, all thanks to a handy retractable lens, making it much more capable of fitting...

Samsung's slimmed down last year's model with the K Zoom, but it's still very bulky; It measures up a hefty 20mm at its thickest point, more than double than LG's flagship G3, and it also weighs up at 200g, making it not the easiest blower to cart around.

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom review

Smartphone cameras are ever improving, but they lack one crucial feature: a zoom. Not so with the Galaxy K Zoom. This Android smartphone has a built-in 10x zoom lens. Find out if this unusual marriage is successful in our Samsung Galaxy K Zoom review.

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom review

By no means the perfect combination of a smartphone and zoom lens, the K Zoom isn’t half bad. It’s capable of great photos and videos in the right conditions. This isn’t a device for everyone, but if the “zoom camera with a built-in smartphone” concept appeals to you and you don’t mind the size and weight, it’s currently your best option.

The phone freezes

I love my Samsung Galaxy K / S5 Zoom, the only trouble I am having is that it freezes some times when I am scrolling on photos or openning camera or sometimes it just freezes when looking at Facebook, the first 3 times it did it I only wait for about 1 minute and pull out the batery to reset it...

Samsung Galaxy K zoom review: Zoom-zoom

The Galaxy K zoom speeds down right onto our review track, ready to take on any cameraphone contender. This speedster is equipped with a 10x optical zoom and OIS and if you were to see only its back, you would hardly recognize you are staring at an Android smartphone with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED...

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom

We know that the smartphone has eaten the compact camera's lunch, but Samsung thinks it still has one or two tricks up its capacious sleeves before the plates and cutlery are finally cleared away.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S4 zoom last year, to place their bets on the cameraphone market. It didn't work out so well, as the S4 zoom was basically two devices slapped on together.

Massive improvements in usability compared to the S4 zoom; Above average AMOLED display; Snappy performance; Point and shoot camera performance

Camera is unstable sometimes; has bugs; Battery life is average; doesn't meet expectations; Still thick and huge when compared to a normal cameraphone; Mid-range specifications – no 4K; sensor is still 1/2.3

The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is not something that I would automatically reject. The camera works well, but the rest of the phone isn't too impressive. It is pretty cool when it comes to general camera performance and you can also use it as a phone.
