Western Digital MY Book Studio 2TB Ext Drive For Mac, Metal Enclosure, FW800 WDBC3G0020HAL-AESN
Watch YouTube Review I made. It is a pretty good external harddrive , specially for us who have a Mac and are looking for a good FireWire harddrive, it is way faster than a USB external harddrive.
Surprised to find a 3TB Firewire drive available for the price (ca £146). Drive arrived fairly promptly, certainly within the week. I had no urgent need for it so this was fine. The package included the drive itself, a FW 800 cable and a USB cable, a power cable with adapters for a variety of...
I bought this to replace a 1Tb Iomega USB drive which was full. I copied all previous backups to the new WD Volume, repaired all permissions and it is performing superbly well. The increased speed of the FW800 transfers make for rapid backups of my Parallels virtual drives.
This thing does what it's supposed to with different interfaces. It runs cooler than my hitachi external 1tb and is decent size. Comparing w/ the previous model line where the light was a circle, the power button is now on the backside.
slim size; runs cool; multiple interfaces
like the previous person said; this thing sometimes disappears from device manager; but I've noticed this in most western digital external harddrives that I've owned in the past 3 years firewire/usb
Install would be easier if the instructions stated that there was no need to use the enclosed CD.
Why is it essential? File sizes are always increasing, requiring even more disk space. Filling up your computer hard drive can cause problems; Photoshop may slow down and it can even decrease the performance of your processor.
This summer WD revamped their My Book Studio line of desktop external hard drives. The new My Book Studios feature an all metal aluminum enclosure and an increased capacity 3TB Caviar Green hard drive inside.
Great looking brushed metal case; Strong performance from FireWire 800; Quiet; passively cooled; design
No eSATA for PC users
The My Book Studio is Western Digital's Mac-focused range. Unlike its single drive cousin , it's not encased in metal, but rather silver spray-painted plastic. The Studio Edition II is rather sensibly named, in that it contains two hard drives, sorting it out for a maximum capacity of 6TB.
User serviceable drives; Great sequential FireWire 800 performance; RAID 1 or 0 available
Not great on the random speeds; we've seen better eSATA performance; Lid is a pain to close
While for some of us, the ability for our hard drive to be able to resist sniper fire underwater is a going concern ( see iOSafe Rugged Portable ), most of us are really just in the market for as much storage space as we can afford.
