Its price may be daunting, but Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition II offers a massive 4TB of desktop storage, speedy transfers over eSATA and FireWire 800, and user-replaceable drives.

Massive storage space; User-replaceable drives; ESATA and FireWire 800 ports offer speedy transfers for Mac or PC

Pricey; but not unreasonable considering capacity; No eSATA cable included

The My Book Studio Edition is a welcome addition to the My Book family, and should find a home on many Mac and PC users' desks.

Capacity indicator isn't accurate; Not the fastest eSATA drive

No fans; Little heat; Huge capacity; Attractive design; Five year warranty; Fully featured Mac software

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II Dual Drive review

Western Digital's latest My Book external hard disk consists of two 1TB disks. In RAID 0 mode, the two disks' capacities are combined to give a whopping 2TB of storage, but if one disk fails then you'll lose all your data.

WD My Book Studio Edition II (6TB)

While for some of us, the ability for our hard drive to be able to resist sniper fire underwater is a going concern ( see iOSafe Rugged Portable ), most of us are really just in the market for as much storage space as we can afford.

Slowish write speeds

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition (1TB)

This thing does what it's supposed to with different interfaces. It runs cooler than my hitachi external 1tb and is decent size. Comparing w/ the previous model line where the light was a circle, the power button is now on the backside.

slim size; runs cool; multiple interfaces

like the previous person said; this thing sometimes disappears from device manager; but I've noticed this in most western digital external harddrives that I've owned in the past 3 years firewire/usb

Love it

All-in-all I 100% highly recommend this drive. I have always been a fan of WD's quality in products. They do not let me down with this one. Yet another great WD product!

Reliable; Have never had any issue with losing data or something not working, aside from the firewire conking out randomly at one point; Fast, Tons of storage, love it

Firewire went out on me recently, working on figuring out why..; otherwise it's great

Fast, Stylish

As of 2010, this is the previous model of the Western Digital My Book Studio Edition drive. One key difference between this model and the latest one is that this one does not have a "virtual disk" that always pops up, which is good.

High Performance; Quiet; Stylish

Blinky
