Apple iPhone SE (2022) review: Should you buy the entry level iPhone?

If you can afford to stretch your budget to the Apple iPhone 13 mini, we'd recommend it over the iPhone SE (3rd generation) any day of the week, but as an entry-level iPhone, the third generation SE is a solid performer and a great upgrade option - you just have to be able to look past that ageing...
Pros:
  • Affordable with flagship power, Excellent performance, Solid camera results, Good battery life, Touch ID is still great tech, Punchy display, 5G capabilities, Some photography iPhone 13 features, Excellent software experience
Cons:
  • Old design, Poor low light camera performance, Single camera, No display changes, No MagSafe

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (256GB, Midnight) - Pristine review

The familiar design of the iPhone SE will be classic to some, old-fashioned to others. But under the bonnet, a lot is new, from a super-fast processor...

  • Breathtakingly fast performance, Cutting-edge processor, Strong battery life, Good for small hands, Great value
Cons:
  • Old-fashioned design, No MagSafe, Only one camera

Apple's New iPhone SE Could Have Been Great

The cheapest iPhone has the same processor as the most expensive iPhone. But it doesn't feel very special.
Pros:
  • The best-performing phone at this price. Bright screen. Decent (day-long) battery life. Wireless charging support. It's compact. Apple supports its smartphones for a long time. Sub-6 5G connectivity.
Cons:
  • The screen feels cramped
  • tough to type. No OLED, no high screen refresh rate, no two-day battery life, unlike some peers. Lack of a Night mode in the camera means low-light images aren't great.

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (256GB, Midnight) - Pristine review

Impressive performance and camera quality but battery life and a sluggish 60Hz display mar the iPhone SE 2022’s appeal
Pros:
  • Neat and pocketable, 5G and superb performance, Camera is great
Cons:
  • Small screen, big bezels, Poor battery life

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (256GB, Midnight) - Pristine review

The iPhone SE is one of the best bargains in modern smartphones. It is not the flashiest or most feature-rich but it offers more bang for buck for longer than any other. It has an almost vintage design, lacks the MagSafe charging and accessory system, Face ID and other niceties of Apple’s more...
Pros:
  • Pros: lowest-cost new iPhone, about seven years of software support, A15 chip, 5G, wireless charging, decent single-lens camera, top performance, easy to handle, water resistance, Touch ID, amazing value.
Cons:
  • Cons: battery life could be better, no headphone socket, no zoom camera, no Face ID, dated design, very slow charging, no MagSafe.

Good phone but

Best phone I’ve ever had. arrived a couple days late but that’s because of Covid. Only problem it comes with the super fast charger which is awesome but it’s a usb c port which means I can’t fit into any normal charging head, so you have to go and buy the apple one of that too. Other than that it’s great

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (256GB, Red) AU - Excellent review

All of this makes the 2022 iPhone SE a winner, though we suspect you won’t be surprised at that. While the update to the phone isn’t much more than a spec update, it’s Apple opting to modestly update what wasn’t really broken to begin with.
Pros:
  • Still the same great classic iPhone design for folks who love a small iPhone with a home button and fingerprint sensor, Solid build, Brings a new high-speed chip to the table, Camera is still surprisingly good for a single shooter, Now includes 5G (if you want that), Better battery life than...
Cons:
  • No MagSafe, Only starts at 64GB, Camera isn't a major change
