Western Digital My Cloud

Western Digital's My Cloud is a NAS (Network Attached Storage device) perfect for those unfamiliar with NASes. It is a practically foolproof device for network sharing. Western Digital cleverly avoids the admittedly off-putting term "NAS" anywhere on the device, in its packaging, or in the online...

Incredible Read/Write speeds; Runs quiet and cool; Stylish design; Easy remote access to data on the drive

Limited functionality in remote access interface; No printer support on USB port

WD My Cloud 2TB Personal Cloud Storage Review

While cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box.net, SpiderOak, and more offer decent ways to

– Super simple pluginandgo setup; – USB 3.0 for expansion; – Mobile app autosync is pretty slick; – WD2GO system makes users not have to think about how to get to their data

– Seemingly no way to opt out of WD2GO; – Horrible issues getting WD2GO to work on OS X; – Unable to connect remotely on OS X; – Two year warranty when the drive instead normally has a three year warranty

Western Digital My Cloud 2TB Personal Cloud Storage

As one of the biggest names in the storage industry, Western Digital doesn't need much of an introduction. Founded in 1970, the company got its start by manufacturing calculator chips.

Easy to setup and manage; Accessible from anywhere using desktop and mobile apps; Good looking and well constructed design; Supports USB and network backups; iTunes music and DLNA media servers; USB 3.0 expansion port; Gigabit Ethernet; Quiet operation; Reasonably priced; 2 year warranty

Mediocre read and write speeds; Hard drive is not removable; Does not support offsite backups

HEIC INCOMPATIBLE

If you are looking for a device to back up photos and video from iPhone, skip my cloud. It's been months since apple switched to this HEIC file format, they haven't come up with any updates to support it. You can't even open the HEIC files or view thumbnails in the app.

WD Cloud Drive

There are only two kinds of computer users out there ... Those that have lost data ... and those that will, which is why it's necessary to back up your data, as your computer is just a machine, but your data is invaluable.

Much better than the older drives

It appears to have a faster process or than the older 4TB model that I had. In the old version, the web based user interface was so sluggish when copying files. Even when using their wdmycloud app to show videos and photos, it was slow to bring up a list of files. Much faster now.

Needed for backup storage. Light use

I'm using this primarily for some office management, photo/video storage, and backup of my cell phone and tablet. Secondary is using the space for networked media devices. I was able to plug in the device, and attach my new nGear 1ft Cat6a cable.

3Tb storage (Chosen option; 1Gb network support; Comes with 2-3ft Cat 5e Cable; Allows for additional cloud syncing/backup; Ideal for private cloud

Does not support auto-backup from USB; Power on/off & reset through web app
