So far not working...

Today will be call #4 with WD about this drive. Keeps dropping off the network with the host PC so I cannot get my files on it. Many reviews from other sites state the same so I am not confident that I will keep this bad product long...

A great piece of kit!

Now that it is set up, both my lap-top and my desk-top p.c.s are automatically backed up daily. I can also access the files from either p.c. on both p.c.s, which is very useful, as there are some files that need to be shared.

BUYER BEWARE

"BEWARE. This product does not work as advertized. Performance is unusualy slow and the device is generally unreliable. Not a device you want to trust your precious DATA on. Until Western Digital resolves these issues or recalls the product I would recommend looking at an alternate solution.

WD's latest offering in the NAS segment has the makings of a good product, but suffers from a number of avoidable flaws. Western Digital isn't new to the storage game, but with the My Cloud, the hardware vendor is looking to offer a seamless method through which users can sync and access their files...

Western Digital My Cloud 2TB Personal Cloud Storage

As one of the biggest names in the storage industry, Western Digital doesn't need much of an introduction. Founded in 1970, the company got its start by manufacturing calculator chips.

Easy to setup and manage; Accessible from anywhere using desktop and mobile apps; Good looking and well constructed design; Supports USB and network backups; iTunes music and DLNA media servers; USB 3.0 expansion port; Gigabit Ethernet; Quiet operation; Reasonably priced; 2 year warranty

Mediocre read and write speeds; Hard drive is not removable; Does not support offsite backups

Review: WD My Cloud

It's more than a little disingenuous to call WD's latest storage product the ‘My Cloud'. Touted as a "cloud of your own" in the marketing bumpf, it's really no different than many other internet accessible NAS devices we've reviewed in the past.

WD My Cloud 2TB Personal Cloud Storage Review

While cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box.net, SpiderOak, and more offer decent ways to

– Super simple pluginandgo setup; – USB 3.0 for expansion; – Mobile app autosync is pretty slick; – WD2GO system makes users not have to think about how to get to their data

– Seemingly no way to opt out of WD2GO; – Horrible issues getting WD2GO to work on OS X; – Unable to connect remotely on OS X; – Two year warranty when the drive instead normally has a three year warranty

Good but Slow

Installed easily on two computers on the home network but it took an incredible amount of time for the first back-up to complete - 36 hours for 941GB over a wired Gigabit system!!! Way too slow.

good for file sharing but useless for media streaming via DLNA

I bought this networked hard drive so that I could stream music and videos to both computers and smart tv's. It was a handy way of sharing files without having to remove and connect hard drives all the time. Although the premise of the product is appealing, it does have some shortfalls.

WD My Cloud 2TB

Western Digital's My Cloud has done more than any other device to popularise the idea of a NAS as a personal cloud, and you won't find a cheaper or smaller way of getting one up and running.
